New Plant
TOPGAS Turbogenerators
The TOPGAS hydrogen-cooled Turbogenerator leads the field in reliability and efficiency, thanks to the proven design elements and the consistent application of operations experience.
TOPGAS covers an output range from 300 to 530 MW in 50Hz markets and 250 to 450 MW in 60 Hz markets and is easy to transport and install on site.
Our innovative and environmentally-friendly technologies have made Alstom a by-word for efficiency, reliability and performance.
The range of TOPGAS applications includes
- conventional steam power plants
- simple and combined-cycle gas turbine power plants
- combined heat and power plants
In a class of its own
- The TOPGAS Turbogenerator reaches excellent reliability and availability values and delivers a unsurpassed efficiency
- The TOPGAS Turbogenerator design features ensure easy maintenance
- The TOPGAS Turbogenerator can be arranged flexibly on the floor or a table, and it comes with a single or double drive application for steam or gas turbines
Designed to perform
- The stator core is made of low-loss insulated steel sheet, while the press plates are made of cast aluminium. This design reduces magnetic losses at the stator ends and thereby helps to raise efficiency.
- The dual-layer stator windings contribute to the efficiency of TOPGAS.
- The reliable MICADUR® insulation system shows excellent long-term durability under all operating conditions.
- TOPGAS Turbogenerator is cooled with pressurised hydrogen in a closed circuit, delivering its outstanding efficiency.
- The truly unique stator end-winding support structure design reduces the maintenance effort and increases availability.
Innovative Turbogenerator retrofit
Based on the well-proven design features of the TOPGAS Turbogenerator, Alstom offers tailor-made retrofit solutions that fit to your existing environment. With these integrated Turbogenerator replacement solutions, Alstom has the ability to increase the performance, reliability, design margins and extend the lifetime of your plant.
A success story
Since the 1960s, more than 600 TOPGAS Turbogenerators have been installed worldwide, with total capacity in excess of 50,000 MW.
- Chiba Mill, Japan
Chiba Mill is a 400 MW gas–fired, combined-cycle power plant for steel production owned by JFE. From September 2002 until 2007, the plant operated reliably in daily start-stop mode, accumulating more than 1,300 starts and over 18,000 operating hours - Taranaki, New Zealand
The Taranaki combined-cycle power plant is owned by Contact Energy. In the past ten years, the TOPGAS Turbogenerator has been in continuous base-load operation, accumulating over 70,000 operating hours and 300 starts. - Severnaya, Azerbaijan
The versatility of the TOPGAS Turbogenerator is demonstrated at the plant in Servernaya, where it is part of a non-Alstom combined-cycle power plant. Over 30,000 operating hours have been accumulated since 2002.
