TOPAIR Turbogenerators
As world leader in air-cooled technology, Alstom has set the trend with TOPAIR by designing a simple and robust air-cooled Turbogenerator.
With a range of 150–400 MW (50 Hz) or 90–300 MW (60 Hz), the TOPAIR can be used where a hydrogen-cooled Turbogenerator was used previously.
Our innovative and environmentally-friendly technologies have made Alstom a by-word for efficiency, reliability and performance.
The TOPAIR’s flexible design means it will fit into any kind of arrangement
- Table- or floor-mounted
- Single or double drive for gas turbines
- Steam turbines and combined-cycle power plants
The advanced solution
- Alstom’s engineering tools and manufacturing techniques are improved constantly, and design features perfected by implementing the feedback from the field.
- The TOPAIR assures high availability and lower initial, operational and maintenance costs. Furthermore, it takes up little space due to its simple layout.
- The TOPAIR has demonstrated its robustness and reliability over many years, and it supports all operation modes for gas or steam turbines.
- The TOPAIR fleet has accumulated over 40 million operating hours. It has proved its reliability under all kinds of extreme operating conditions.
Designed to perform
- The stator core is made of low-loss insulated steel sheet, while the press plates are made of cast aluminium. This design reduces magnetic losses at the stator ends and thereby helps to raise efficiency.
- The reliable MICADUR® insulation system shows excellent long-term durability under all operating conditions.
- The dual-layer stator windings contribute to the efficiency of TOPAIR.
- The truly unique stator end-winding support structure design reduces the maintenance effort and increases availability.
- The multi-chamber cooling system ensures efficient heat transfer and avoids hot spots.
A success story
- Lumut Extension (Malaysia)
The Lumut power plant is the largest IPP plant in Southeast Asia. - Rocksavage (UK)
The Rocksavage power plant is an Alstom KA26-2 multi-shaft outdoor combined-cycle power plant, equipped with three identical TOPAIR Turbogenerators. Since 1997, they have accumulated more than 170,000 operating hours and over 1,300 starts, functioning with exceptional reliability.
